Something HappenedApril 27 Portfolio Comments
I think you portfolio is great in the sense of nice ideal and special taste of architectural representation. But for the aim of finding a job maybe it's good to think more about what are the firms looking for from you.
As far as I know, firstly they looks for productive labors, which means you are good for different software. The best, you are excellent with one or two software. My Sketchup works really helped me a lot for the interview. Although it's simple software, I did the best graphic no one else can do. So they really think you are good for one aspect which can really contribute to the team. So maybe you can put more rendering images on your portfolio. Graphic capability is a really important thing they are looking for from GSAPP students. I know it's important to explain the project step by step with nice diagrams, logic and other representations. But the job hunting portfolio should be really like an "Index" or a "Shopping List" showing what you can do what you did before. Points can be added if you 'did a big or sophisticated project', 'you did different types of project ', and 'you have experience for the design in different scales'. So I think it's a great ideal to put the curtain wall staff as a separate page. But maybe it's advisable to reclarify projects of the other pages. Can it be one project on one page? That'll be very helpful for the examiner to understand what your 'Shopping List' is. The plan and diagram can be even smaller, because no one has time to look at that much detail drawing. They are busy working for their own projects every day… So maybe the direction can be truly about polish the graphic to make it really seductive and each project can just focus on showing your different ability. Try to keep less similarity, less repetition between different projects. Moreover, again, maybe it's good to rethink about what you can contribute to their team. That's the direct reason they hire you for. I love your portfolio which full of wisdom and tasty ideal and sense. Just keep in mind you have enough time to explain to them when you have the interview, but before that you should catch their eyes first. So this working sample thing is more like an 'article' other than a 'poem'^ PS: She did BA Urban Study at Stanford University, no architectural background, and then joined the Columbia MArch program April 24 Desk Crit
Competition Result
Something Happened
March 15 吾 师 my tutor
